With the inane speculation on possible Star Wars directors becoming a never-ending nuisance, we’ve opted to shy away from that particular coverage, mostly due to rumors being squashed in mere hours, but today we have something that could actually come to fruition. As we know, Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt is on board to script the seventh Star Wars film for producer Kathleen Kennedy and now we have an update on who may tackle the eight and ninth films in the franchise.
Like any franchise, Disney wants to be one step ahead and even though the first film isn’t expected to hit until summer 2015, potential screenwriters are already being looked at for the installments that would follow every other year. According to Deadline, their sources indicate that the studio is looking at both Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg to scribe to come aboard for these planned films.
Kasdan’s name should click with the hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere, after working on both Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, not to mention Raiders of the Lost Ark. Kinberg is also no stranger to franchise work, having a hand in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past for Bryan Singer, as well as the first Sherlock Holmes (and we’ll all try to forget This Means War). Kasdan is obviously a great choice, so hopefully we’ll get some confirmation — but first, Lucasfilm, I plead you to just announce a director for the first film so this madness can end.
