With The Hunger Games: Catching Fire arriving in theaters next week and bringing with it millions upon millions of cash-equipped tweens, Hollywood is looking to sell them on the next big YA adaptation, Divergent. Basing on another bestselling franchise, this time from author Veronica Roth, the story follows our characters living in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities.
Starring The Spectacular Now duo of Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller, direction comes from Limitless‘ Neil Burger, while Kate Winslet is set in a villainous role. Thankfully light on the mumbo jumbo that occupies a great deal of these YA adaptations, it does have a seemingly cheap production quality, but the inclusion of some talented stars could make for a worthwhile new franchise. Check it out below, along with a poster, for the film also starring Theo James, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Maggie Q, Ashley Judd, Ansel Elgort, Mekhi Phifer and more.
DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a future where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
Divergent opens on March 21st, 2014.
