Courtney Hunt delivered not only one of the better low budget films of 2008 with Frozen River, but one of my favorites of the year. Now, according to Variety, she has her next project figured out at Focus Features. She is currently writing the script for a remake of the 1999 french film, Ressources humaines (Human Resources).

Laurent Cantet, who was behind the fantastic Oscar-nominated The Class, directed the original. The update “will be set in contemporary America while following the original pic’s template. Storyline involves a young man who returns to his home town to take a management position at a local factory. After being charged with making personnel changes, he must examine his feelings about what it means to be in management.” Focus Features CEO James Schamus commented on the project:

“In Frozen River, Courtney Hunt, with extraordinary empathy and skill, depicted the lives of real Americans… all the while keeping audiences riveted. We’re proud to join her on her latest project, and we’re pleased to be collaborating with our longtime friends at WAM Films.

I loved The Class and have been meaning to watch both Cantent’s Time Out and Human Resources. I guess now is better than ever. After Hunt’s excellent work on Frozen River I couldn’t be more excited about her next project.

Did you like Frozen River? What do you think about Hunt doing a remake?
