If you have yet to hear about John Green‘s novel The Fault in Our Stars, that’s because it was only published just a few weeks ago. But, as everyone knows, Hollywood loves to make books into movies, no matter how recent their publication date may be. According to Variety, Fox 2000 has just acquired the rights to Green‘s novel for an adaptation, which will be produced by Twilight‘s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen.
This is Green‘s fourth novel, which “centers around a terminally ill 16-year-old with thyroid cancer who joins a support group for cancer patients, where she meets a handsome teen, and the two help one other grapple with their respective illnesses.” It seems as though the guy has been taking notes from a particular Nicholas Sparks novel, which was also made into a movie back in 2002. (I’m referring to A Walk to Remember, just so everyone knows.)
Green‘s first novel, Looking for Alaska, won the 2006 Michael L. Printz award for adolescents, and the rights for it were acquired by Paramount back in 2005; that’s currently on the shelf indefinitely. His 2008 novel, Paper Towns, also attempted to make its way to the big screen, but eventually fizzled out as well due to differing opinions.
Have you read The Fault of Our Stars? If so, are you interested in this adaptation?
