The cast for the Footloose remake has officially been set. Behind the camera for the remake is Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow, Black Snake Moan), and starring in front of it is newcomer Kenny Wormland as Ren (the crazy-dancing Kevin Bacon character), Dennis Quaid as the dance-disapproving reverend (previously played by John Lithgow), Miles Teller as the best friend and Julianne Hough as the love interest. The script is being written by Craig Brewer and Dean Pitchford, the writer of the original film, will be producing.
Footloose was a surprise hit back in the ’80s, picking up where Flashdance (which came out a year earlier) left off. Only 3 years later the world would be given Dirty Dancing. These three films aptly define what the ’80s meant to a lot of people: dancing like a maniac so as not to be put into a corner.
Wormland is a nobody, much like Bacon was in the original. In this way it feels right, but let us not forget Paramount seems to have been backed into this after young stars like Zac Efron considered the project, then ultimately passed. As for Brewer as the director, there’s little to say other than “well, at least the guy knows his music.”
Expect to dance you a** off April 1st, 2011.
What do you think about this? Do people even want to see a Footloose remake?
