It seems that the folk parody duo, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, from Flight of the Conchords have decided to spread their “pillow feather” wings and head into the realm of family films. First up is news that Clement is ready to be the bad guy in Men in Black 3, and now Stuff (New Zealand) reports that McKenzie will serve as music supervisors on the new Muppet film, currently known simply as The Muppet Movie (nice). McKenzie told the site, ““[the offer] was really unexpected. […] It was a very surreal experience.” McKenzie was thought to be involved in the film after EW revealed a image from the film production which included him and director James Bobbin.
Things are so far looking pretty good for the project, with Forgetting Sarah Marshall writers Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller working on the script and a large number of cameos packed in for good measure. Emily Blunt, Ricky Gervais, Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Zach Galifianakis, and Jean-Claude Van Damme will all be making an appearance. Neat eh? Segel has even written a few Muppet–themed songs himself. Could it get any better? Well… Probably. Regardless, The Muppet Movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on the November, 23rd 2011.
Do you think Segal and Mckenzie could make the ultimate musical Muppet duo?
