After four features to Brenton Thwaites‘ name this year (the horror flick Oculus, the sci-fi feature The Signal, the blockbuster Maleficent, and the YA adaptation The Giver), the fifth is easily the one with the most potential, even if most audiences won’t get to see it for some time. While A24 haven’t set a release date for it yet in the United States, the thriller Son of a Gun will be making its debut in its home country of Australia in October, and the first trailer has landed today.
The directorial debut of Julius Avery, the project also stars Ewan McGregor and along with Thwaites, another emerging star, Alicia Vikander. The story follows a teenager named JR (Thwaites) who becomes embroiled in a world of crime when he is taken under the wing of Australia’s most notorious criminal, Brendan Lynch (McGregor). Check out the trailer below (via Film Divider) for the film also starring Jacek Koman, Matt Nable, and Tom Budge.
Son of a Gun will be distributed by A24 in the United States.
