After impressing with her debut Bachelorette, writer-director Leslye Headland returned to Sundance Film Festival earlier this year with Sleeping With Other People. Starring Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie, it follows the two as characters who met during college but reconnect 12 years later, both realizing they are monogamy-challenged. Once thought to be released at the end of the summer, it got pushed back slightly to early September, and today brings the first trailer.
We said in our review,” Working within sub-genre expectations with a sure hand and a bit of a sardonic streak, Headland finds fresh ground to tread in familiar territory, not-so-subtly updating When Harry Met Sally… for a generation a tad more comfortable with oral sex and obsessed with their iPhones.”
Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Adam Scott, Amanda Peet, Jason Mantzoukas and Natasha Lyonne.
Can two serial cheaters get a second chance at love? After a one-night stand in college, New Yorkers Lainey (Alison Brie) and Jake (Jason Sudeikis) meet by chance twelve years later and discover they each have the same problem: because of their monogamy-challenged ways, neither can maintain a relationship. Determined to stay friends despite their mutual attraction, they make a pact to keep it platonic, a deal that proves easier said than done. Fresh, funny, and full of witty insights about modern love, this hilariously heartfelt film “is the rare rom-com that reminds us why we love them so much in the first place” (Time Out New York). Amanda Peet, Adam Scott, Natasha Lyonne, and Jason Mantzoukas co-star.
Sleeping With Other People will open on September 11th.
