After last year’s Unbroken took a look at an Olympic tale and melded it with a war drama, we’ll have another similar feature come next year with Race. The story follows the legendary Jesse Owen (played by Stephan James, who replaced John Boyega) who during the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin came home with four gold medals, challenging Hitler’s twisted idea of Aryan supremacy.
Coming from Lost in Space director Stephen Hopkins, the first trailer has now landed which should please fans of both genres of sports and historical drama. Starring Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Irons, Carice van Houten, Shanice Banton, and William Hurt, check out the first trailer below.
Based on the incredible true story of Jesse Owens, the legendary athletic superstar whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy. “Race” is an enthralling film about courage, determination, tolerance, and friendship, and an inspiring drama about one man’s fight to become an Olympic legend.
Race opens on February 19th.
