While it looks like that planned Gary Oldman-directed, Benedict Cumberbatch-led biopic on cinema pioneer Eadweard Muybridge never came to fruition, another one will make it to screens. As directed by Kyle Rideout, co-scripted by producer Josh Epstein, and based on the play Studies in Motion: The Hauntings of Eadweard Muybridge, the story of Eadweard focuses on the 1874 murder Muybridge committed against his wife’s lover. Aside from this he was, of course, known to be widely regarded as the founder of moving images.
Having premiered at last year’s Berlin International Film Festival, the first trailer has now finally be unveiled for the drama led by Michael Eklund. While it’s certainly a smaller-budget feature, here’s hoping it has a cinematic touch and doesn’t come off as a TV movie. That said, the producers have yet to find U.S. distribution, so we have yet to know in what capacity we’ll be able to see it. Check out the trailer and poster below courtesy of First Showing, along with a documentary on Muybridge’s life.
