Released in the summer of 2009, few were expecting Neill Blomkamp‘s directorial debut District 9 to have the impact that it did. Made on a budget of around $30 million, with the help of producer Peter Jackson, the science-fiction blockbuster melded straight-up action with a strong story to deliver one of the most well-rounded films of the year. After four long years, the director is now back with another film in the same genre,  Elysium.

Originally set to debut last month, the 2159-set film was moved to a summer release (in the same timeframe of his debut), and now Sony Pictures is finally unveiling our first trailer tomorrow evening. Before that we’ve got a slick debut poster, which features our protagonist Matt Damon making use of his high-tech exoskeleton suit. Check it out below for the film also starrinng Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, Wagner Moura, Alica Braga and Diego Luna. [Yahoo]

Synopsis:

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium arrives on August 9th.
