Anyone waiting for a glimpse of Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz together in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be pretty pleased with Walt Disney Pictures, as the latest issue of USA Today has premiered the first official pictures of the next installment in the Pirates franchise.
One image shows Captain Sparrow being dragged along by some serious looking officers, the other shows him pointing something out to the newest lady to walk into the Pirates story line, former flame of the Captain, Angelica, played by Penelope Cruz. Described by Terry Rossio (co-screenwriter) as “a kindred spirit who is a con artist at heart as well. She’s not only a romantic interest, but an equal and effective adversary.” Cruz’s character looks set to spice things up for the leading man.
Speaking about the iconic drunken character, Depp revealed that he doesn’t really grow at all with time, “Captain Jack is about as fully realized a human as he can be. He’s there. He’s going to stay there. Which is fine.” But he also added that Sparrow will be taking on most of the movie this time around which is actually serving to streamline the story, “what’s most interesting about Pirates 4 is you don’t have to connect the dots for these subplots and sub-characters, […] It felt like a fresh, clean slate.”
