Steven Spielberg may be gearing up for his version of Abraham Lincoln story, but there is another 2012 film of the same subject, only with more vampire hunting. Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov is helming the adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith‘s popular novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and today we have the first look via NYTimes.
Pictured above, one can see our lead Benjamin Walker (Flags of Our Fathers, Kinsey) as the president. He is joined by Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Robin McLeavy, Jimmi Simpson, Alan Tudyk and Rufus Sewell. In the report, straight from the currently in production set, they state the “audacious” film actually will go “a considerable step beyond” the novel with Lincoln being a “meticulously researched, surprisingly authentic, three-dimensional” character. The director even compares the film to classics such as D. W. Griffith’s Abraham Lincoln and F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu. Consider my interest raised. Check out the synopsis below.
When Abraham Lincoln was nine years old, his mother died from an ailment called the “milk sickness.” Only later did he learn that his mother’s deadly affliction was actually the work of a local vampire, seeking to collect on Abe’s father’s unfortunate debts. When Abraham Lincoln discovered the true cause of her death, he wrote in his journal, “I shall become learned in all things – a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose.”
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter hits theaters June 22nd, 2012 in 3D.
