After securing another Oscar this year, this time for his producing work on Argo, George Clooney has no little time for a vacation. The Hollywood talent kicked off production earlier this month for his follow-up to The Ides of March, the WWII tale The Monuments Men, and now the first photos have surfaced from the Germany-set film.
While Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, and John Goodman make up the supporting cast, today we’ve got a look at Matt Damon in uniform and a mustached Clooney, who also has a role in the film, but is seemingly just in director mode here.Check out the images below thanks to Coming Soon, featuring some of the set, and a synopsis of the film which is easily shaping up to have one of the best ensembles of the year.
Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men focuses on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.
The Monuments Men shoots through June for a December 18th, 2013 release.
