The latest issue of EW (on newsstands tomorrow), has a few first look images from some big upcoming movies. First up (above) is the first still from Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s live-action debut, 21 Jump Street. The update on the classic ’80s TV show stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as two undercover cops assigned to work in high schools and colleges, pictured above. In the feature described as “a John Hughes movie with Bad Boys style action,” Hill says, “It’s essentially a story about guys who didn’t get it right the first time going back to school. It’s almost like a time-travel movie where they have the answers that they didn’t know then. Like Back to the Future Part II: They go back, but now they have the almanac.”
For those worried that the older Hill and Tatum don’t blend in, they told EW they “have a lot of jokes about how Channing looks much older than most the other high school kids in the movie.” Rob Riggle plays the villain, Ice Cube is a police chief and Brie Larson is the female lead role. 21 Jump Street, which features a cameo by Johnny Depp, hits theaters March 2012.
EW also has the very first look at Stefan Ruzowitzky‘s Blackbird. The director behind the Oscar-winning foreign film The Counterfeiters is making his English-language debut with the thriller. It stars Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde as brother and sister thieves “who get lost in the woods of northern Michigan after a violent heist.”
The film also stars Son of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam (who recently got attached to Guillermo del Toro‘s epic Pacific Rim blockbuster) as a member of a quiet family they stay with. Wilde also states she may be forced to be reckoned with in the film, “I love the tension between siblings. It’s an abusive relationship, emotionally, and my character has a bit of a Stockholm Syndrome that keeps her as her brother’s prisoner.” EW reports that in this story, “the picked-on little sis may strike back. Blackbird will hit theaters in 2012.
