A new Pixar film hitting theaters means a number of things. First, it will make a whole lot of bank. I would say secondly that it will be of pristine quality, but the film in question is Cars 2, so I’ll skip over that. It also means we will be getting a brand new, original short attached at the beginning, like Day & Night, Partly Cloudy, Presto, and many others that came before them. Lastly, it usually means will we get some sort of teaser for their next film. I can confirm we will be getting a minute-long teaser for their June 2012 film Brave before the Cars sequel. You can check out more info and the first photo here, but let’s get on with the footage.
AWN (via Bleeding Cool) has the first 30-second clip from the short La Luna, which runs 6 minutes and 53 seconds. Directed by Enrico Casarosa (a story artist from Cars, Ratatouille, and Up), I’m loving the animation on display and can see the director’s influence from Hayao Miyazaki. There is no dialogue, but we learn all we need to know to begin this short tale. Check it out below, followed by a synopsis and poster.
Synopsis:
La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Tonight is the very first time his Papa and Grandpa are taking him to work. In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait. A big surprise awaits the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Will he be able to find his own way in the midst of their conflicting opinions and timeworn traditions?
The full short will be attached to Cars 2, which hits theaters June 24th, 2011.
What do you think of the short clip? Are you looking forward to Brave?
