We all knew that nipple-baring, NSFW poster for David Fincher‘s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo wasn’t going to be the final design. The great Neil Kellerhouse is at it again and the final poster design for this dark crime adaptation has been released. Donning the new tagline, “What is hidden in snow comes forth in the thaw,” the phrase has been used for their extensive viral campaign.

Starting off with updates on Mouth Taped Shut, it has extended to a micro-site, which has led to an alternate reality game where hints to the location of 40 packages are slowly being revealed. /Film did a great job of summarizing, but the packages including a painting and note signed by Fincher, which correlate with the yearly packages Mr. Vagner has been receiving from what we assume to be his missing niece.

For now, keep tabs on Mouth Taped Shut and check out the official one-sheet below, which also shows off the new font design seen in the latest four-minute trailer. The style of combining the two leads Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara feels similar in what I think is a much better poster for the excellent Martha Marcy May Marlene, which can be seen right below.

Synopsis:

Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle (Christopher Plummer) continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig), a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate.

He is aided by the pierced and tattooed computer prodigy Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo hits theaters December 21st, 2011 and stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara with the rest including Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård, Steven Berkoff, Robin Wright, Yorick van Wageningen and Joely Richardson.
