Just this morning we shared the first trailer for Spike Lee‘s latest project and this afternoon comes an update for his next. Proof that his New Orleans production of Oldboy had begun was recently revealed in some set photos and now distributors FilmDistrict have set a prime fall release date for the film.
They’ve announced they’ll release the revenge drama on October 13th, 2013, making it the only feature set for a release that weekend thus far. Currently the week before will see the Harrison Ford-led thriller Paranoia, as well as Robert Rodriguez‘s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, while the following week brings Luc Besson‘s Malavita, the Idris Elba thriller No Good Deed and WB’s The Seventh Son. Expect a lot of these to get changed, but for now the fall is shaping up to be stacked with adult-targeted dramas.
As we know Josh Brolin is our lead and Sharlto Copley plays the villain, while James Ransome and Elizabeth Olsen fill out the supporting roles. Check out the official synopsis below, which makes some slight changes from Chan-wook Park‘s original.
OLDBOY follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor’s motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.
Are you looking forward to a new Oldboy next fall?
