Variety is reporting Spain’s Filmax Entertainment has greenlit production on two more sequels in the highly successful [REC] series. The first will be Paco Plaza‘s [REC] Genesis and the second is Jaume Balaguero’s [REC] Apocalypse. The fist two [REC]s were co-directed by Plaza and Balaguero, but the two will each focus on their own this time.
[REC] Genesis “will explore the origins of the diabolic zombie mutant virus partially explained in [REC]2.” Plaza and Luis Berdejo are writing the script. Berdejo co-wrote [REC] and just made his feature directorial debut with The New Daughter, starring Kevin Costner. Genesis is looking for a fall 2011 release date.
Apocalypse will be the final film in the series. Balaguero will start filming after he finishes his “sociopathic doorman thriller Sleep Tight.” He aims for a fall 2012 release date.
I loved the original [REC] but have yet to see the second. I’m always a sucker for handheld, immersive filmmaker if done right and the original hit it out of the park. I wonder if these means we will see shot for shot Quarantine sequels as well?
Are you excited for more [REC]?
