Since landing in Hollywood, Eric Bana has strayed far from Australian comedic upbringings, molding into a trustworthy drama/action go-to man. This will only be solidified in his upcoming slate, as we’ve got new updates on two thrillers, one the Star Trek lead just finished and another he’s about to join.
We’ll get the small one out of the way first, as The Hollywood Reporter lets us know the title of an upcoming thriller he starred in with Rebecca Hall, Ciarán Hinds and Jim Broadbent. Previously going as the not-too-catchy Untitled International Suspense Thriller, the film directed by John Crowley (helmer of Andrew Garfield-starring Boy A), will be now known as Closed Circuit. Scripted by Eastern Promises‘ Steven Knight, expect an update on the film from Focus Features soon, with a likely 2013 release in the cards.
The trade also updates that he is close to coming aboard Lone Survivor, which marks Peter Berg‘s follow-up to Battleship and one with thankfully a smaller scope. Bana will join Emile Hirsch, Taylor Kitsch, Mark Wahlberg and Ben Foster in the true-life story of four Navy SEALs who, on a covert mission, were ambushed by Taliban forces and only left with one survivor: Marcus Luttrell, author of the book upon which this new film is based. Bana will play a SEAL lieutenant and although Berg’s last film got unwieldy, he packed a good amount of fun in and I look forward to him tackling this story, along with a strong cast.
Production begins this September in New Mexico for a likely 2013 release.
What do you think about Bana’s upcoming projects?
