Australian leading man Eric Bana is no stranger to offbeat roles – the Hulk star pulled off a German accent to play a deadly assassin in Hanna, and was almost unrecognizable as the mad villain Nero in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. If the rumors are true, he’ll add another interesting choice to his resume.
According to The Wrap, Bana is in talks to play a cop who investigates the paranormal in Scott Derrickson’s Beware the Night. Taken from a script he co-wrote with with Paul Boardman (The Exorcism of Emily Rose), Derrickson (Sinister) will helm the story of a New York police officer who looks into reports of demon possessions, exorcisms, and werewolves. The premise was adapted from a true-crime thriller written by Ralph Sarchie and Lisa Collier Cool, which recounts tales of the NYPD’s encounters with the unexplained.
Derrickson was brought on to direct and rewrite the picture for Screen Gems and Jerry Bruckheimer back in September, but there haven’t been any developments on the project since then. News of Bana getting on board, and taking a role originally offered to Mark Wahlberg, at least looks promising for the horror flick.
Does Bana’s possible involvement with Beware the Night make you more interested in the film?
