It’s been a good month for 29-year-old Lauryn Kahn. It started when her first screenplay, the inevitably soon to be renamed He’s Fuckin’ Perfect, was picked up by Fox 2000, landing her a whopping $1 million against $1.5 million. Now, Deadline reports it-girl Emma Stone is in talks to star in the picture, which could potentially be her next film.
He’s Fuckin’ Perfect is a comedy about a social media savvy girl who doesn’t believe in love and scours her friends’ dates’ online profiles to find their flaws. While doing this, she discovers who she believes could be the perfect guy. Soon she’s using her social media skills to turn herself into his perfect match.
It may sounds like another hokey Web 2.0 rom-com, but it’s exciting to see a studio pay this much for a first-timer’s script. Kahn has been Adam McKay‘s assistant for 4 years – a connection that definitely helped move this project along – and hers is almost (but not quite) a rags to riches writer story.
According to Deadline, the script was never even meant to be shopped. It was sent directly to Stone by Will Ferrell and McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions in hopes that she would become attached to the project. Somehow it leaked, and a bidding war broke out between four studios. When the sellers wanted to wait another day so two more studios could jump in on the auction, Fox 2000 raised the stakes with a 90-minute expiration on a seven-figure offer. It – and Kahn – won. That process alone would make for an interesting movie.
As for Stone, she just wrapped The Amazing Spider-Man and reunites with Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer on the now-shooting Gangster Squad. Without another movie lined up, He’s Fuckin’ Perfect could potentially be rushed into production to fit her schedule.
What’s the best alternate title you can come up with for He’s Fuckin’ Perfect?
