Last week we reported that the Rashida Jones-penned indie rom-com Celeste and Jesse Forever had begun casting, adding such indie luminaries as Ari Graynor, Emma Roberts and Chris Messina to the mix. Now, bunny-lover Elijiah Wood has signed on to play what THR describes as, “Celeste’s business partner, a metrosexual who tries to be her ‘saucy gay friend,’” which is an admittedly confounding description. First off, I thought we as a culture had retired the word “metrosexual” to the passé graveyard along with “jiggy” and “hella.” Secondly, pretty sure you can’t be a gay metrosexual, as the term typically referred to a straight guy who —being influenced by “gay culture” — is fashion conscious and often well-groomed. Of course, now that so-called metrosexuality has extended beyond the cities into the burbs and beyond, straight guys having in an interest in looking good is no longer so out of the ordinary that it requires its own moniker. Regardless of this seemingly paradoxical description, I’m personally a fan of Wood’s offbeat sense of humor (which will soon be on display on the new FX sitcom Wilfred) so I’ll be curious to see what he brings to Celeste.

Celeste and Jesse Forever, which will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger (The Vicious Kind), centers on a divorcing couple (Jones and Andy Samberg) who attempt to maintain a friendship, while moving on – and living together.

No word yet on when Celeste begins production, but you can check out the premiere of Wilfred on June 23 on FX.

What do you think of Wood in Celeste? Does the character description make sense to you?
