This week on DVD and Blu-ray I get to re-watch one of the best TV shows of the last decade, see below:

Grab ‘Em Right Away

LOST – The Complete Series Blu-ray

Created by: J. J. Abrams

Starring: Matthew Fox, Naveen Andrews, Jorge Garcia, Josh Hollaway, Daniel Day Kim, Yunjin Kim, Evangeline Lilly, Terry O’Quinn, Emile De Ravin, Michael Emerson, Dominic Monaghan & Henry Ian Cusick

Why should you buy this? Because (as I said above) it is one of the greatest TV shows of the past decade.  It definitely doesn’t surpass my love for The Wire, but it hits a science-fiction/storytelling high that many one-hour dramas would love to reach.  Not only does the show take it’s situation seriously, but it takes the treatment of its characters with such truth that you never feel taken advantage of.  Even though I do have a few problems with some of the aspects of the final season I still loved the ending and hope to revisit this show again with the dedication that the actors and behind-the-camera staff had in making it.  I particularly love how much in the first few seasons the show played on the ideas of survival and didn’t rush to explain things. On a side note, since this item does run you about $200, if you’re one of those out there who’ve been buying this show season by season throughout the years and you don’t have that much extra cash on you, then I’d recommend just buying Season 6 alone on Blu-ray.  Otherwise get this badboy and worry about the credit card bill later.

City Island

Directed by: Raymond De Felitta

Written by: Raymond De Felitta

Starring: Andy Garcia, Julianna Marguiles, Steven Strait, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Ezra Miller, Alan Arkin & Emily Mortimer

Why should you rent this? It’s one of those family movies that are truly funny.  If you think you’ve seen a dysfunctional family, check out the Rizzos.  Everyone is lying to everyone.  Vince Jr. is secretly into fat girls, Vivian is stripping for a living, Joyce is smoking and Vince is taking an acting class that he can’t tell his wife about.  Vince also brought home Tony from jail because he’s found out that he’s his child that he never knew from a love long before Joyce came into the picture.  However, somehow with the injection of Tony into the family dynamic everyone is finding a way to come out about their secrets and brings the family closer together.  It’s a great movie that may even be worth a buy in my books, but will remain a HIGH rental recommendation.  Hear my friends and I discuss it on my podcast here.

Avoid Like the Plague:

Abandoned (STV)

Directed by: Michael Feifer

Written by: Peter Sullivan & Jeffrey Schenck

Starring: Brittany Murphy, Peter Bogdanovich & Dean Cain

Why should you just break up with her? Because it’s one of the most poorly conceived thrillers and worst acted film I’ve seen in a long time.  I’d like to say that It’d be made better by alcohol but since I never actually tried that I can’t tell you for sure.  The movie takes place in a hospital and has something to do with people thinking that Dean Cain, who plays Brittany Murphy‘s boyfriend, up and left him.  But in reality he’s been kidnapped and no one but Murphy knows/thinks this.  Brittany Murphy was never a good actress and here she is definitely the best of the film – which isn’t saying much.  The plot is stupider than most and the dialogue is cringeworthy.  Check out my full 0/10 review here.
