In the wake of recent music-heavy films — Into The Woods and Whiplash to name a few — François Girard (Silk, The Red Violin, Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould) has assembled a strong ensemble for his latest film Boychoir. The drama, which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival last year, follows Dustin Hoffman as a stern choirmaster who guides and teaches a troubled, but musically gifted young boy, played by newcomer Garrett Wareing.
The movie boasts a promising cast, including Eddie Izzard, Debra Winger, Josh Lucas, and Kathy Bates. As one can see in the trailer, music sung by the choir seems to be the true star, ending in a powerful rendition of “Zadok the Priest.” This first preview is nothing but uplifting and can be seen below ahead of a Canadian release this March and U.S. in April.

Synopsis:
A recently orphaned 12-year-old boy (Garrett Wareing) is sent to a boarding school, where he struggles to join an elite group of world-class singers. No one expects this rebellious loner to excel, least of all the school’s relentlessly tough conductor (Dustin Hoffman), who is forced into a battle of wills to bring out the boy’s extraordinary musical gift.
Boychoir opens in Canada on March 6, 2015 and April 3rd in the Uninted States.
