The long-time, very talented composer Cliff Martinez had an eventful 2011, after he provided his gift to Drive, Contagion and The Lincoln Lawyer; it sounds like he’s making 2012 another great year for music. As ThePlaylist has informed us, he’s been hired to score Robert Redford‘s upcoming drama The Company You Keep.
Adapted from Neil Gordon‘s novel, Lem Dobbs (Haywire) has penned the script for Company, which centers on “a former Weather Underground militant Jim Grant (Redford) wanted by the FBI for 30 years for a Bank of Michigan robbery, who must go on the run when his true identity is exposed by a young, ambitious reporter (Shia LaBeouf) hell-bent on making a name for himself.” Terence Howard, Brendan Gleeson, Anna Kendrick, and Brit Marling are amongst the cast, and the film marks Redford‘s ninth directing gig.
This comes after being tapped to reunite with Nicolas Winding Refn for God Only Forgives, in addition to the upcoming thriller Arbitrage, starring Richard Gere. He’s had a long time companionship with Steven Soderbergh, as they have worked on 10 films together, most notably Traffic and Sex, Lies, and Videotape, with the aforementioned Contagion being their latest collaboration. (As an interesting side note, he was also the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers back in the 1980’s before he started his composing career.)
We recently caught up with Martinez during Sundance this year, where he discussed Drive, Contagion and Arbitrage. You can check out the interview here.
Are you a fan of Martinez’s work? Are you happy to see him score The Company You Keep?
