In 1993 we had Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List. In 1997 we had The Lost World and Amistad. In 2002 we had Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can. In 2005 we had War of the Worlds and Munich. Steven Spielberg seems to have a knack for matching expensive mainstream blockbuster with passionate, smaller Oscar-quality film.
2011 will be no different.
We reported on War Horse, his WWI children’s story, which tells the tale of the war from the prospective of a horse. It did have an August 2011 release date but now Risky Biz is reporting Dreamworks is changing their release schedule for next year.
The film will now get a prime awards season release date of December 28th. This is just a few days after his mo-cap blockbuster The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn hits theaters December 23rd. It’s going to be a wonderful set of Christmas presents.
Dreamworks also shuffled Shawn Levy‘s Hugh Jackman-starring, Robot-fighting Real Steel from November to October 7, 2011 as they believe the “drama deserves more space to stretch its legs moving through the fall.” After the surprisingly solid Date Night can Levy do it again?
Tate Taylor‘s drama The Help will hit on August 12 and the 3D Fright Night remake starring Colin Farrell will touch down a week later on August 19.
In other release date news Julian Schnabel‘s Miral has been given a March 25th, 2011 date after being pulled from this year. John Wells‘ The Company Men will appear later this year on December 10th, after being pushed from Oct. 22nd.
Are you excited for two doses of Spielberg next December?
