Whether it’s his debut Slacker or the masterful Before trilogy, one could listen to the words of Richard Linklater for hours on end. A new documentary, which picked up the top prize in its category at Venice Film Festival, now puts the helmer in front of the camera. Directed by Gabe Klinger, Double Play: James Benning and Richard Linklater, is set to screen at SXSW and today brings the first trailer.
Exploring the careers and friendship of Benning and Linklater, the duo were initially acquainted when the latter invited the former to the Austin Film Society in the 1980’s. Before Linklater even made his first feature, they began a friendship and now decades later, the two discuss cinema and more in this new documentary. It looks like a must-see for any fan of film and hopefully a strong accompaniment to Linklater’s Boyhood (review here). One can check out the trailer below, as well as a clip and some outtakes.
Double Play: James Benning and Richard Linklater screens at SXSW and will hit VOD this year.
