The rumors that Alfonso Cuaron would possibly direct The Tourist are false. The originally attached director, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) will be behind the camera when filming begins in the spring, EW reports. The project which originally had Tom Cruise, then Sam Worthington, has now settled on Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie as leads. The Tourist is a remake of the 2005 french film Anthony Zimmer, which is about a female Interpol agent who draws an unwitting American tourist into her attempt to locate a criminal who was once her lover.
I loved Donnersmarck work on The Lives of Others, as it’s in our Top 100 Films of the Decade. I’m very interested in what he does next. I wish Cuaron would confirm his next project soon, as he is one of my favorite directors. With Depp and Jolie attached to this though it should prove to be one of the biggest films of next year.
Are you happy Donnersmarck is back on The Tourist?
