A sequel for the film Diary of A Wimpy Kid has been fast-tracked and is looking at a March 2011 release. The first film shot for $15 million and went onto gross around $64 million, so a sequel’s no surprise. It’ll be called “Diary of Wimpy Kid 2: Roderick Rules“. [The Playlist]

Stars Zachary Gordon, Steve Zahn and Rachael Harris will all return and behind the camera will be Gregg Heffley (Flushed Away, Astro Boy). The film will be penned by writers Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah and filming should get underway this August up in Canada, specifically Vancouver.

While I haven’t seen the film I have heard good things about it and considering the profit it made, I’m not surprised a sequel not only got greenlit but has also been fast tracked. Seeing as the sequel is starting to shoot in a little over a month, I’m sure it won’t be long before it hit theatres. Maybe it’s time I check out the first one.
