Forever a recluse who famously disappeared for twenty years between two projects (1978’s Days of Heaven and 1998’s The Thin Red Line), Terrence Malick seems to be making up for lost time. In addition to, currently, working on four films as a director, Malick is also a producer on the upcoming Green Blade Rising. Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), who’s starring in the film, revealed this news to MovieNation (via ThePlaylist).
Being an Abraham Lincoln biopic, you can see it as something of a competitor to Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln, which you might have heard of. Kruger is set to play Sarah Bush Lincoln, who was Honest Abe’s step-mother. Green Blade Rising seems to be something of a Lincoln prequel, if you will, as it takes place in the early part of his life.
Kruger has played a variety of roles throughout the course of her career, and should have no problem slipping in to the role of Mrs. Lincoln, though further details on this project are still under wraps. The choice of who will play a young Abe (and subsequently, be able to fill Jimmy Stewart‘s shoes) will certainly be an interesting one.
And if you can’t get enough of Kruger (we can’t blame you), Cineuropa says she’ll star opposite writer-director-star Guillaume Gallienne in Me Myself & Mum, an autobiographical tragicomedy. The film chronicles Gallienne‘s struggles with his work, relationships, and sexuality; Kruger‘s role is currently unspecified.
Does either project sound worthy of Kruger’s time and talent?
