I think for many of us, Dennis Quaid is one of Hollywood’s quintessential good guys. Whether he’s a circulatory system navigating pilot, a dedicated dad/doomsday predictor, or a heroic SeaWorld employee – one look at that winning smile, and we know everything’s going to be okay. Well…not anymore.

After playing the devout Christian dad in Soul Surfer, Quaid’s ready to revel in his dark side with the horror-thriller Beneath the Darkness — and the result is kind of hilarious. Taking a cue from Disturbia, the story centers on a few teen friends (which includes Aimee Teegarden) who have discovered something unnerving about the local mortician (Quaid) – you know other than the fact that he works with dead people for a living. While investigating, one of their friends is mercilessly murdered by this mortician – but no one will believe them! To get a taste of Darkness check out the trailer courtesy of Shock Till You Drop.

Personally, I don’t know that I buy Quaid as a baddie – but I love his attempts at menacing quips like, “Most accidents happen in the home.” As a fan of these kind of schlocky, gruesome small town horror tales, I’ll happily check out Beneath the Darkness when it hits theaters this fall.
