Oscilloscope Pictures has debuted the trailer for the Allen Ginsberg Indy biopic Howl.

Starring James Franco as Ginsberg and written/directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Freidman, Howl follows the obscenity trial that Ginsberg faced after the publication of his poem Howl. Gus Van Sant was also on board as executive producer.

Check out the trailer below from DailyMotion.

Howl covers the 1957 obscenity trial that resulted from the publication of Ginsberg’s famous three-part poem, which was riddled with drug use and both homo and hetero sexuality.  The drama will also include an animated re-imagining of the 1956 poem.

With U.S. distribution by Oscilloscope Pictures, the film first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival as the opening night film and later at the San Francisco Film Festival as the closing film.

Howl will reach limited theaters on September 24th.
