Shaping up to be one of the few high points of the summer tentpole seasons, Matt ReevesDawn of the Planet of the Apes arrives this weekend amidst critical acclaim. While our review will be coming shortly, today we have a few materials that’ll gear one up for the release. First up, Spotify has unveiled Michael Giacchino‘s complete score, which instead of spoiling certain events in the movie opts for entertaining ape-centered puns.

Following that, 20th Century Fox has teamed with VICE’s Motherboard to create a series of three short films that bridges the 10-year gap between Rise of the Planet of the Apes and its follow-up, wherein much of humanity was wiped out. As far as lead-up materials go, it’s a surprisingly well-done production that should be necessary viewing for those heading into theaters this weekend.

Lastly, it’s time to head back to the early 90’s as Film School Rejects have dug up Reeves’ first short film (at least, the first that is available online), Mr. Petrified Forrest. Created during his 1991-92 year at the University of Southern California, the project is co-produced by none other than J.J. Abrams (who also contributed the score) and co-edited by James Gray. Following a passport photographer (Sam Clay) who has a fear of death and avoids air travel, check it out below ahead of what is easily Reeves’ biggest film.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes arrives on July 11th.
