Following up their surprise hit last summer, 20th Century Fox have finally found a director they are happy with for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes — and now it’s time to get the script in working order. Although they liked Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver‘s original draft, The Hollywood Reporter has an update on an addition to the franchise that will help out with script duties.
Known for his work in the summer blockbuster circuit, Mark Bomback has been tapped to dip his pen into this sequel of a prequel. He last helped out with Total Recall and before that gave us Unstoppable and Live Free or Die Hard, while also making his stamp next summer with the currently shooting The Wolverine.
While I’ve never admired his work, reports indicate he did some uncredited work on last year’s Apes film, so he at least knows the territory and can perhaps add some blockbuster flourish, but keep the humanity at the center as we saw in Rupert Wyatt‘s take.
Matt Reeves‘ Dawn Of The Planet of the Apes arrives on May 23rd, 2014.
