Coming off the critically and financially successful 2008 comedy Role Models, director David Wain has been attached to his next project, Pajiba reports. The film is an adaptation of Alex Robinson’s Top Shelf graphic novel, Too Cool to Be Forgotten.

Synecdoche, New York and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind producer Anthony Bregman picked up the rights nearly a year ago for the story surrounding “a middle-aged man who, after trying hypnosis to quit smoking, is transported back to 1985, where he must relieve his awkward and gangly formative years and get the girl of his dreams.”

It’s a shame Hot Tub Time Machine wasn’t a massive success, because it sounds like this would get a greenlight pretty fast. I loved Role Models and Wet Hot American Summer. Even The Ten had a few great sections. I’d love to see Wain head closer to the spotlight as he is a very talented director.

What do you think about this project? Should Wain take it on?
