Although he is attached to direct the film adaptation of the Playstation game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, The Fighter director David O. Russell is readying another project beforehand, Vulture reports. Sources confirm that O. Russell will direct Mark Wahlberg in an adaptation of of Matthew Quick’s 2008 novel The Silver Linings Playbook.

This project previously had Bradley Cooper and Anne Hathaway attached, but there is no mention of them here. Most surprising is the report stating “with Wahlberg coming aboard, it’s looking increasingly likely that Playbook will be Russell’s next film.” Check out a synopsis below.

During the years he spends in a neural health facility, Pat Peoples formulates a theory about silver linings: he believes his life is a movie produced by God, his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife Nikki. When Pat meets the tragically widowed, physically fit, and clinically depressed Tiffany, she offers to act as a liaison between him and his wife, if only he will give up watching football, agree to perform in this year’s Dance Away Depression competition, and promise not to tell anyone about their ‘contract.’ All the while, Pat keeps searching for his silver lining.

After working on Three Kings together it seems as if Wahlberg and O. Russell are getting buddy-buddy. With the latter’s volatile reputation it nice to see he can get along with someone. Even if this project doesn’t come to fruition, there is always The Fighter 2, which can see their reteam. That, or one of the many other projects O. Russell is circling.
