A month ago we reported that Darren Aronofsky may be off the “ultra-violent” Robocop reboot, due to MGM wanting to go 3D with project. An auteur like Darren Aronosfky is not “interested in gimmicks” and he moved on to Black Swan, which comes out later this year. Now ShockTilYouDrop talked to Wolfman screenwriter David Self, who had this to say about the project:
I’m still involved with it and Darren Aronofsky’s still involved with it. He’s making another movie right now (Black Swan), but we’re waiting for MGM, to sort things out since they’re a large corporation and it’s a situation where we have to be practical. We’re waiting to continue with them, we hope that that happens soon and we can get back to it soon.
He also cleared up the exact direction they are going for:
It’s definitely not a sequel. It’s an origin story, it’s an origin to the original Robocop. So, it’s basically a ‘reboot’.
I would love to see Aronofsky take on the Robocop remake. Especially the gritty, realistic, ultra-dark version he has been claiming. Aronofsky is one of our favorite directors here on TFS, three of his films being on our Top 100 Films of the Decade list. Check back to TFS for more updates as they arrive.
Do you still want to see Aronosfky take on the Robocop reboot?
