After heading to space with Sunshine, going to India with Slumdog Millionaire, then getting trapped in isolation with 127 Hours, Danny Boyle returned this year with the trippy heist film Trance. While the film received mixed reviews, it looks like it’s not swaying the helmer to take off in a wildly different direction, as he’s just become attached to another film in the genre.

According to Variety, he’s reteaming with Pathe and Fox Searchlight for a feature adaptation of Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers, a documentary which was released this past summer. Helmed by Havana Marking, the film told the true stories of the best diamond thieves around the globe. It wasn’t just talking heads, either, as the doc used real-life surveillance footage from their mission. While there’s no writer attached at this moment, we can expect more details soon on Boyle’s version, and in the meantime, check out the trailer for the documentary it’s based on below.

Have you seen the original? What do you think of Boyle taking this on?
