It’s fixed anyway, right? Oh wait, Danny Boyle might direct the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympics in London. Organizers are seeking a Londoner to run the spectacle, and Boyle is reportedly in the mix, The Times is reporting.
I was 8 years old when I first saw the opening ceremony for the Atlanta Olympics, and I have anticipated the spectacle almost as much as the games themselves ever since. Featuring local culture with the feelings of global unity, the opening ceremony is true performance art on an epic stage. With that being said, it is certainly not a film. It would be interesting to see how Boyle, coming off his highly successful yet very narrative-driven Slumdog Millionaire, would do when presented with a purely conceptual setting like this.
Meanwhile, Boyle is working on 127 Hours, the story of Aron Ralston, who cut off his own arm to survive a climbing accident. If the movie is anything like Ralston’s first hand account, I’ll be sure to vomit more than once, an admirable quality in any movie.
Are you interested in the Opening Ceremony? Is this the place for Boyle?
