Variety brings us news today that Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter series) will play the lead role of Paul in the upcoming remake of All Quiet On The Western Front. Producing the title are Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson who also wrote the script for the film. The remake, based on the classic 1930 award winning film of the same name, is still a long ways away and will start shooting in the spring of 2012.
Stokell was quoted as saying:
Daniel brings a vulnerability and innocence to Paul. When we realized how much he loved the script we were really excited because we know he can tap into the delicate balance between intensity and believability that is critical for this demanding role.
The original film was a classic and the cast and crew behind the remake are going to have to be careful that they preserve the legacy of the original. While I think Radcliffe is a talented actor, he alone can’t hold the entire film. I’m interested to see who else signs onto this project and where it goes from here. Hopefully they can get an all star cast and a solid director behind the camera.
The original starred Lew Ayres who went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director.
What do you think? Would you like to see Radcliffe in the role?
