One of the oddest concerts I’ve been to was Dan Deacon‘s Baltimore Round Robin Tour. Spread over two nights, the concert featured dozens of acts that would play one song at a time, across the entire venue. The lights would go up in one section, you would see a performance, and the next one could be directly behind you. Orchestrated by Deacon himself, it was a whirlwind time, and one of the most memorable events I’ve been to. When news hits that he will score the next film by the guy behind Apocalypse Now and The Godfather Trilogy, you have to get interested.
Pitchfork is reporting that he will score Francis Ford Coppola‘s Twixt Now and Sunrise and a press release states they will be “collaborating on a larger level, details of which will be announced soon.” That’s all we know for now, but with a release expected this year, stay tuned for more details. With Trent Reznor teaming with David Fincher, and Daft Punk doing Tron: Legacy, think of this new decade as the year of experimental scores.
The “gothic horror romance” stars Val Kilmer, Ben Chaplin, David Paymer, Alden Ehrenreich, Elle Fanning, Bruce Dern, and Joanne Whalley. It even may feature a 3D segment, something that would certainly fit Deacon’s psychedelic music. View a sample of it below, with a live performance of his hit Crystal Cat:
Twixt Now and Sunrise will see a late 2011 release.
What do you think of Deacon scoring a Coppola film?
