One of my dream jobs in Hollywood is to pitch movies and get paid ridiculous amounts for them without needing to write a pesky script, so on that end, I can respect this news. Deadline has reported that Warner Bros. has bought a pitch from Dan Fogelman (the scribe for Cars, Tangled, and Bolt) for a reported seven figures. In layman terms that means “a ridiculous sum of money.” The untitled pitch, which already has Tom Cruise attached, follows a politician who is caught having an affair and escapes the scandal back to his hometown, where he deals with the wounds from his past. Cruise will obviously play the politician, in case you were questioning it.
Fogelman has been raking in the dough as of late; he made $2.5 million for the script for Crazy, Stupid, Love. which has turned into a summer movie starring Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling. Warner Bros. also already gave him $3 million for his script Imagine which will star Carell as the long lost son of a rock star; Fogelman will be making his directorial debut with that one. He also scripted My Mother’s Curse, a comedy starring Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand. In essence, Fogleman could retire today and never have to work again but I assume he hasn’t installed the platinum fountain yet so expect more from him.
Meanwhile, Tom Cruise has a somewhat busy schedule himself. He will be playing the lead in Adam Shankman‘s adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages and then there’s that spin-off for his Tropic Thunder character Les Grossman that is slowly developing. He’s also attached to Joseph Kosinski‘s Tron: Legacy follow up but let’s just forget about that since it’s a follow-up to Tron: Legacy.
Do you think Dan Fogelman deserves the amount of money he’s been given?
