Over the past few weeks there have been many rumors circulating about different projects. We have recently received a number of confirmations which I have included all in one post. You can find all of these below.
We reported that Ruben Fleischer will be making a sequel to Zombieland and there is a good chance it will be in 3D and about a week before that it was reported that we will be seeing a Jackass sequel in 3D sometime next year. Both of these projects have now been confirmed by Variety. Sony will be financing the Zombieland sequel with the original director and writers. They are currently looking for Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg to return. Jackass is even further along, with production set to start on January 25th. With Avatar coming soon and 3DTV’s set to hit the marketplace next year, look for many more announcements like these.
Two days ago we also reported that director Paul Greengrass will be leaving the Bourne series. He has since confirmed that and issued an official statement, which you can read below via Variety.
You won’t find a more devoted supporter of the Bourne franchise than me. I will always be grateful to have been the caretaker to Jason Bourne over the course of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. I’m very proud of those films and feel they express everything I most passionately believe about the possibility of making quality movies in the mainstream. My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge. There’s been no disagreement with Universal Pictures. The opportunity to work with the Bourne family again is a difficult thing to pass up, but we have discussed this together and they have been incredibly understanding and supportive. I’ve been lucky enough to have made four films for Universal, and our relationship continues. Jason Bourne existed before me and will continue, and I hope to remain involved in some capacity as the series moves on.
Lastly, we reported that filming of Guillermo del Toro‘s two Hobbit films have been delayed from spring until summer 2010. I speculated that this would cause a delay from it’s December 2011 release date (for the first film), and it looks like that is true. WaxWord has the scoop that an executive close to the film said, “while it is still possible that it could come out in December 2011, it looks more likely to be 2012.” If this is true, then the second film would come out in 2013.
What do you think about these confirmations?
