Colin Farrell may be looking to reinvigorate his once thriving ‘tough guy’ career that he started in films such as SWAT and Daredevil before his budding blockbuster career started fizzling out by taking on the lead role in the upcoming Total Recall remake. Farrell has spent the last four years performing in riskier films and has garnered a significant amount of respect for his acting, thus, he seems an odd fit for this project. Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) will be directing the updated film based on Philip K. Dick‘s short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale.

The original Total Recall is a bit of a guilty pleasure (as are most 80’s Arnold Schwarzenegger films) but Dick’s story has the making for a top-tier science fiction film. Unfortunately, Wiseman doesn’t appear to be the type of director who could elevate the material to the level it needs to be anything more than a schlocky action film. Only time will tell.

THR is also reporting, however, that both Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender are in contention for this role. Hardy, who has become a hot property thanks to his role in Inception, seems like the most appropriate guy to fill Ahn-uld’s guns but Fassbender is also a great actor.
