Of all the actors yet to make that oh-so-common transition into directing, Chris Evans is not one I’d have immediately pegged to follow suit. And, yet, according to TheWrap, Captain America himself is bit by the directing bug, now being set for 1:30 Train — a title that, in its basic outline, would more or less sound like a remake of Before Sunrise. Not that anyone’s cribbing, here, but if you were to crib… well, this isn’t the worst place.
Ron Bass (Rain Man, My Best Friend’s Wedding) is behind the script, which follows a “down-on-his-luck saxophone player [to be played by Evans] who helps a young woman in need and end up falling for her.” What brought Linklater, Hawke, and Delpy so strongly to mind? The man and woman meet in a train station, from there engaging in “a night of romantic adventures” that will only conclude once her New York-bound train arrives. That this sounds like a nice, touching little story — better yet, probably the exact kind of thing a newcomer ought to handle — makes it all the more odd that McG‘s Wonderland Sound & Vision are to produce with Baldwin Entertainment. In related news, the director of Terminator Salvation has found his soft side.
1:30 Train will commence shooting in the fall.
Is Evans going behind the camera a prospect you like the sound of?
