Yesterday the web was abuzz with news that Chloe Moretz (Let Me In, Kick-Ass) was teasing a “huge” new project. The pint-sized starlet was frustratingly vague on the details, saying only, “It’s big and it’s crazy and it involves some really cool actors.” Still, that was enough to trigger limitless speculation as to which tent pole production she referred. Though the most popular guess was The Hunger Games, official word has now come down, revealing Moretz is set to appear in Tim Burton’s star-studded Dark Shadows.
Based on the cult-adored 1960s soap opera that featured a cast of werewolves, vampires and other monsters, Burton’s movie adaptation will feature a cast that includes Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Bella Heathcoate, and Michelle Pfieffer, along with his near-constant collaborators Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp. While Carter will play a psychologist, Depp is eagerly taking on the role of the show’s most popular figure, vampire Barnabas Collins. Pfieffer will play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the matriarch of the Collinwood household, and according to Deadline, Moretz has just signed on to play her daughter, Carolyn.
The child star was ecstatic when she discussed the (then cloaked) role with MTV, saying, “You’re gonna’ die when you find out, it’s huge! You’re going to be freaking out because I was.” Now that the project’s been revealed, it’s easy to understand her enthusiasm. For better or worse Burton’s film’s make bank at the box office and attract stellar performers, so this is could be the biggest film she’s been in so far. Let’s just hope that Burton’s take on Dark Shadows will prove livelier than Alice in Wonderland. But really, if there’s no CGI-enhanced dance number – that’s a huge step in the right direction.
