If there is one star of June, it’s probably Mark Duplass with three different films seeing a release (and yet another in July). But the runner-up is likely Charlize Theron, with her off-the-charts silly role in Snow White and the Huntsman and the smartest gal on the ship in Prometheus. She’s now looking to her next project and THR has the details.
The actress has entered talks to join the next film from Shakespeare in Love director John Madden, who is coming off last year’s The Debt and this spring’s runaway hit The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. The film, previously attached to director Kevin Macdonald (State of Play, The Last King of Scotland) is titled Murder Mystery, which seems to indicate a tongue-in-cheek nature, and it’s described as “a comedy whodunit.” Best of all it’s scripted by the uber-talented James Vanderbilt who undid the whodunit in David Fincher‘s Zodiac.
Produced by Theron herself, the film follows “an American couple on honeymoon who are implicated in a murder they witnessed” and acts as “an affectionate deconstruction of an Agatha Christie-style thriller.” With Theron usually opting for more serious roles, a fun comedy thriller like this could do her some good.
Production is set to begin early 2013.
