Shaking off the doldrums of winter, productions are gearing up and casting decisions are raining down. Here’s the latest:
John C. Reilly is rumored to co-star in Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim’s movie adaptation of Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job, a comedy show that memorably included Reilly as local advice anchor Dr. Steve Brule. Notably, Reilly is not lined up to reprise the role of the wine-guzzling buffoon, but rather will be playing a fellow named Taquito. Make of that what you will.
The movie, ambitiously titled Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, will likely be as oddball as the show – and as packed with celebrity guests. Early talk suggests Will Ferrell, Bob Odenkirk, Zach Galifianakis, Harrison Ford and Will Forte may make appearances. (Tracking Board via /Film)

Sweet berry wine!
This next bit of casting news came from an unexpected source. A small Boston-based site that’s known for posting crew calls for upcoming productions has revealed Amanda Seyfried (Red Riding Hood) and John Cusack (The Raven) will be co-starring in Bullet, “[a] dark thriller about a man only known as ‘The Clockmaker’ who devises the ultimate plot of revenge against a seemingly random group of people by manipulating them to kill one another.” Writer/director Patrick Alessandrin (Mean Spirit) will be helming the project, which will be shooting in Boston in April. And for all you Gerard Butler fans, it looks like this genre-leaping Scotsman is looking to tackle the romantic-comedy once again in the so-called “soccer comedy” Playing the Field, which co-stars Jessica Biel and Uma Thurman.
Butler stars as a former pro soccer player who finds himself dodging romantic advances from soccer moms after he agrees to coach his son’s youth team in an attempt to bond with the boy.
Biel will play Butler’s ex, while Thurman will be a soccer mom.
Butler will be producing the film, which was scripted by Robbie Fox (So I Married and Axe Murderer, In the Arm Now) and will be directed by Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness, Seven Pounds.) If you’re puzzled by this configuration, you’re note alone. (Zany comedy writer teamed with schmaltzy drama director?) But here’s hoping with Butler in charge, he’ll finally get a comedy deserving of his charisma. (Variety)
