Despite only taking a matter of months from when the project was announced to actually securing a helmer, the director search for Star Wars: Episode VII was one filled with mostly ridiculous rumors, and now the casting search, along with the desire to know the plot of this new film, looks to be a repeat process of speculation. While we won’t have a completely confirmed ensemble and certainly any substantial plot details (especially if director J.J. Abrams has his way) for some time, we do finally have our first confirmed cast member.
While Luke Skywalker aka Mark Hamill is open to the idea of returning and there’s even rumors Harrison Ford has signed on the dotted line to return as Han Solo, this new update comes straight from the horse’s mouth. While speaking to the Palm Beach Illustrated, Carrie Fisher was blatantly asked about Star Wars: Episode VII with the question, “Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?” Her response? A simple, “Yes.”
There you have it — Leia will be back in all of her glory. Fisher even joked she’ll be in an “elderly” state, at an “intergalactic old folks’ home.” There’s no telling just what Kathleen Kennedy and Abrams have up their sleeves for these characters, but if Fisher is back, I would imagine a confirmation from Ford and Hamill aren’t too far off. Regardless, I’d like this new trilogy to greatly branch off, so hopefully these appearances amount to nothing more than cameos.
One can see Fisher, and whoever else joins her, when Star Wars: Episode VII hits screens in 2015 at the earliest.
Are you looking forward to seeing Princess Leia return?
